I am faced with a choice and I can not decide which is the better option: smart TV or android tv box?

Can I install additional applications on the smart TV as on the TV box?

You can use Raspberry Pi with LibreELEC OS installed. It includes Cody and you can watch movies, TV, radio, photos, music and even play games.
